From The Reporter's Notebook BUZZING: Today in the Hive From a TPM Prime member: "For me, the defining feature of Fascism is it's economic policy/construct, which is mainly the "privatization" (of profits) of government. The "public" is eliminated or subjugated: taxes (not optional) must be paid, unlike free market consumer spending and labor rights are broken to benefit private corporate interests. The notion of the private individual being subjugated to the "corporate" (the whole, larger body, not the business/legal notion of corporate) was pervasive. While it is true that many Fascist governments relied upon hyper-nationalism and xenophobia (which are what Trump deals in) in order to achieve and maintain power - to the point that these were predominant features - these are not definitive because many other forms of government have pursued them in much the same way (think of pogroms in support of the Russian Absolutist Monarchy)." Related: Jim Gilmore said he doesn't agree with Trump's "fascist talk." Have something to add? Become a Prime member and join the discussion here.
